Casinos in Northern New Mexico

 

New Mexico has an array of casinos throughout the state, with more than half of them in the northern part of the state.  They vary greatly, ranging from a single building with a few hundred electronic slot machines to full-blown resorts with hotels, spas, convention centers, and multiple restaurants.  Each gambler has their own preference for the style of gaming they like.

The recently opened Flowering Waters is five miles outside of Shiprock.  It is one of two casinos run by the Navajo Nation.  The establishment has 120 gaming machines and will likely expand in the years to come.

This Jicarilla Apache casino is located in Dulce.  The hotel is a Best Western with 42 guest rooms.  In house dining options include the Hillcrest Restaurant & Coffee Shop and Trophy's Bar.  With over 150 machines and open ‘til 1AM on average, it’s a great get-away casino to go visit.

The Santa Claran (formerly known as Big Rock) is located in the heart of Espanola, making it central to many of the local attractions.  Every effort was made in the hotel’s construction to embody the feeling of Pueblo architecture and traditional New Mexico art styles.  The facility features a hotel with 124 guest rooms, The Big Rock Bowling Center, and a gift shop.  The casino has more than 700 slot machines and 10 gaming tables, featuring Blackjack, Craps, Roulette.  It is open 24 hours a day on weekends and until 4AM during the week.  Dining options include the Black Mesa Steakhouse, Big Rock Sports Bar & Grill, The Santa Claran Café, 10 Pin Snack Bar, The O Bar & Tapas and the Coffee Bar.

Nestled near the unusual rock formation it gets its name from, Camel Rock Casino is a long-standing attraction in Tesuque Pueblo.  The casino has nearly 600 slot machines and 2 gaming tables; Three Card Poker and the casino’s own Blackjack Switch.  They also offer video poker.  Dining options include the Pueblo Artist Café & Restaurant, which offered New Mexican food as well as a Friday Seafood Buffet.

Half a mile from Cities of Gold is the Sports Bar, a miniature casino with simulcasting race books for both horse and dog races, with betting done in real-time, as they happen across the country.  The Interactive Player Terminals allow players to place bets right from their seats rather than having to wait in line to place a bet.  It also has over 100 slot machines and big screen TVs to watch sports events on.  Dining options are a full service bar and snack bar, including green chili cheeseburgers.
